Cathrine Holtet was born in Norway, but moved to Scotland to study ceramics at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee in 1996. She graduated with a BDes(Hons) in ceramics in 1999.<\/p>\n

Growing up in Norway with a childhood immersed in nature, from foraging for wild foods, skiing across frozen lakes,\u00a0wild camping in the mountains, to fishing and swimming in the sea, and exploring the breathtaking coastline, Cathrine has always been endlessly inspired by the natural world.\u00a0 Anything from mic<\/span>roscopic life form to majestic landscapes inform her aesthetic approach. Combi<\/span>ned with her fascination of the translucency and whiteness of porcelain, and her stubborn desire to master a material which can be ruined by the tiniest impurity or flaw, she creates a range of sculptural pieces and vessel shapes.<\/p>\n

Since 1998 she has specialised in the technique of water-etching on porcelain, creating delicate, nature inspired relief patterns that are brought to life as light passes through the porcelain walls. Her latest range \u2018Swirls, Eddies and Tidal Pools\u2019 has moved away from the purely decorative translucent work, to a more functional range inspired by the colours and movement of water, beach combing and sea life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
